Jupiter Offers 'Penny-per-Megabit' Promo

SAN JOSE, Calif. — To battle the "summer slowdown," hosting company Jupiter Hosting Inc. is running a "Penny-per-Megabit" bandwidth promotion for new customers, alongside a "Twice as Nice for the Same Price" promotion for existing customers.

Jupiter Hosting CEO Ray Taft told XBIZ there is no catch to this simple program and no other hosting company has ever done a promotion like this. Taft said he is already seeing a positive response since the company announced the promotion Monday morning.

"We are getting a huge response," Taft said. "Bandwidth is one of the most significant expenses for online businesses."

New customers to Jupiter Hosting who sign up by the end of May need only pay one cent per megabit from their signup date through June - August. Existing customers who do business with Jupiter will have their bandwidth automatically doubled during June and July.

"This allows [webmasters] to push more bandwidth and experiment for more traffic without the [possibility] of losing money," Taft said.

The promotion idea came from Kevin Croy, senior vice president of business development.

"Just over past few weeks we've been trying to think about how to help customers take on the summer slowdown that we all hear about," Croy told XBIZ. "And we thought that this is probably the best way to help customers do that. And if we can bring new ones on in the process, then great."
